Handwriting Specialist Network

Chrisann Smith is a retired teacher (May 2024) having over 30 years experience in teaching and tutoring pre-Kindergarten through high school age students. Dr. Smith prefers teaching students one-on-one or in a small group setting. She holds advanced degrees in Special Education (M.A.) and in Human Learning and Development (EdD). Her Doctoral thesis explored psychological and social issues surrounding student underachievement and solutions to these issues. Dr. Smith engages in reading professional material on the importance of handwriting on memory and thinking skills. Her interactive approach with students insures instruction meets students at their skill level while directing achievement in a comfortable manner which increases student confidence. also, Dr. Smith has published a program to improve student literacy incorporating reading skills and skills of student expression through writing in addition to the physical act of writing. She has much experience in adapting these skills (fluency, vocabulary, word study, comprehension, phonics and phonemic expression) to all age groups.
