Summer is a great time for families to expand their young learner’s mind with hands-on, educational experiences. The simplest activities can teach the greatest lessons and create the longest-lasting memories. You don’t have to spend loads of money to take your children on educational summer excursions.

- National Ice Cream Day
Mark your calendars! July 21 is your chance to get free ice cream for you and your family. Most major ice cream shops will be waiting with open freezers full of your favorite flavors available for no cost at all or at a significantly reduced price. Check out this list of participating creameries.
- Local Library Visits
There’s always something happening at the library! Whether your little learners are flipping through the pages of their favorite books while cuddled up next to a patient pooch, or getting their hands dirty making their next masterpiece, they are sure to be entertained. Visit usa.gov/libraries or google “libraries near me” to find your local library and see the events calendar.
- Local Park Trips
Adventure awaits at your local park. Give your children permission to run free and unleash their energy by spending a day at your neighborhood park. Some parks have free or low-cost organized activities, such as fishing, and free events like culture and heritage festivals. If not, get creative and make up your own!
- Outdoor Movie Nights
Outdoor movies are in. They’re held at local parks, entertainment areas, sports fields, and several other cozy, scenic outdoor settings—and very rarely cost much, if anything. The only things you’ll need are chairs, blankets and, of course, snacks.
