The Get Set for School complete curriculum is divided into six learning areas that seamlessly work together to create a better academic outcome for Pre-K students. Students are taught developmentally, learning the easiest skills first, then building on that knowledge.
1. Language and Literacy
Students are taught a foundation in letter recognition and letter sound recognition that begin to build reading and writing skills. These skills support each other and develop in tandem. This learning area shows students that print has meaning and they can use it to express themselves.
2. Readiness & Writing
Students learn social-emotional and readiness skills using hands-on methods that make the experience meaningful. They develop fine motor skills, learn to hold a crayon, and use Wood Pieces to learn body parts, position words, and the vocabulary to describe capital letters and numbers.
3. Numbers and Math
Active lessons promote number recognition, formation, and counting. Students manipulate and count objects in the room, sing songs that reinforce number concepts, and participate in different activities that explore numbers. They also use fine-motor skills to explore number activities, trace numbers, and manipulate objects as they count them.
4. Oral Language
Students hear and say individual words and appropriate sentence structure and grammar as they participate in tri-weekly Oral Language activities while using Word Time. Classroom discussion with the puppet, Squawker, and the Word Time program bring conversation to life and makes conversation informative, fun, and engaging for students.
5. Science
Active lessons promote number recognition, formation, and counting. Students manipulate and count objects in the room, sing songs that reinforce number concepts, and participate in different activities that explore numbers. They also use fine-motor skills to explore number activities, trace numbers, and manipulate objects as they count them.
6. Social Studies
Through discovery play and exploratory activities, students develop early social studies skills in these four domains: self and family, community, history, and geography. Teachers actively engage with students and build on children’s awareness of these skills.
Aligned to ESSER and ESSA
Get Set for School is eligible for educational grants and funding. The program meets ESSA's Promising evidence criteria, with materials aligned to ESSER funding's allowable activities.
