Checking out with a quote on our store
To confirm your shipping address, or add a new address, use the shipping section of the checkout page to select your existing address, or add a new one. Once you have entered your shipping information, shipping and tax will be calculated and your total will update.
To purchase via purchase order, select the tab in the payment screen. Note, only shoppers at schools and organizations can use purchase orders to check out. If you would like to use a purchase order but do not see this option, please use the purchase order upload here.
Learning Without Tears collects sales tax in all states except the following:

Items sent to APO/FPO military addresses are not subject to sales taxes.
Sales tax charges are based on state and local tax laws and tax rates for the delivery address of your order. Where required, tax will also be applied to the shipping and handling charges. If you return an item for a refund, you will also receive a refund for the taxes you paid for that item. You will not receive a refund for the taxes you paid on the shipping and handling of that item, as the shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable once an item has been shipped.
- Online Orders: The appropriate sales tax will automatically be added to your order based on the ship to address. Please note that on-screen order totals reflect estimated tax. The actual charge to your credit card will reflect all applicable taxes calculated at the time your order is shipped.
- Order Forms and Purchase Orders: Add the appropriate sales tax based on the delivery address. The amount you enter on your order as Estimated Tax may differ from the amount of sales tax ultimately charged to you. The tax rate applied to your order will generally be the combined state and local rate for the address where your order was shipped. Therefore, the sales tax rate applied to your order may be different for an order shipped to your home address than it would be for the very same order shipped to your work address. If you have any questions about what sales tax amount to add to your order, please contact Customer Service via the customer care form or 888.983.8409. Note that many factors can change between the time you place an order and the time of credit card charge authorization, which could affect the calculation of sales taxes. The amount appearing on your order as Estimated Tax may differ from the sales taxes ultimately charged, as determined by Learning Without Tears' certified professional tax rate service provider.
- Tax Exempt Customers: If you are tax exempt, please include your exemption form along with your order. Online orders may upload the tax exempt certificate during checkout. Additionally, you can email your tax exempt certificate to taxdepartment@lwtears.com. Please be sure to note the online order's reference order ID or your purchase order number so that we can locate your order. To ensure compliance with state and local tax laws, all submitted forms and tax exempt information must be received and reviewed by our customer service department before a customer can place an order free of tax.

If paying with a credit card:
Browse our products and place orders online for fastest delivery. Online orders can be paid for with a purchaser order or by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. Orders are processed by the end of the next business day after the day the order was placed online.

Credit Cards:
If the order is placed online, then there is an automated order confirmation email that is sent out immediately after ordering. If you do not see this email, please check to see if it ended up in your blocked or spam email. If it’s not there either, we recommend contacting us via the customer care form or 888.983.8409 before attempting to order again. For phone orders, we can provide an order confirmation number for your order over the phone.
Purchase Orders:
When a purchase order is emailed to us or uploaded through our website, an automated email reply is sent to confirm receipt of the order. If the purchase order is faxed or mailed to us at 301.263.2707, you will need to contact us via the customer care form or 888.983.8409 to confirm receipt.
If you provided an email address while placing your order, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information and the shipment date. Please check your email (including any spam or blocked email folders) and double click on the tracking link that takes you to the carrier’s website for order tracking.

For online orders, reply to the email order confirmation with the modifications that need to be applied. For all other orders, please contact Customer Service as soon as possible at 888.983.8409. Please contact us within 24 hours of submitting the order. Certain changes may not be possible after the order has already been processed.
No, Learning Without Tears does not have a physical store location. Any orders need to be placed via one of the following methods:
- On our website.
- By phone at 888.983.8409 using a Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.
- Via Purchase Order submitted through emailorders@lwtears.com, website, or faxed to 301-263-2707.
International Ordering through Learning Without Tears
For customers who wish to purchase directly from Learning Without Tears, the following Shipping and Handling Rates will apply to orders:
Canada Residents
- 10% of item subtotal
- $14 minimum (includes customs, duties, and brokerage fees)
International Shipping (excluding Canada)
- 15% of item subtotal
- $20 minimum (customer is responsible for customs, duties, and taxes)
Ordering through an Authorized Reseller
For customers who wish to purchase from a local authorized reseller of Learning Without Tears products, please contact Customer Care at 888.983.8409 or via the customer care form.
The recipient of an international shipment may be subject to customs brokerage fees, import duties, and taxes after the shipment reaches the destination country. Additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient because we have no control over these government-imposed charges and cannot determine what they may be. Customs policies vary greatly among countries. Please contact your local customs office for information.
To avoid a delay in receiving your order from customs, please consider the following:
- Provide us with a phone number where you can be reached by customs when your product arrives. This phone number will be listed on the commercial invoice so customs can reach you to clear your order.
- Please do not refuse a shipment or ignore requests from carriers regarding duty and/or tax liability charges. Be aware that most carriers will hold a shipment for five days after arrival in your country before they return it to the sender.
- We do not refund original shipping charges for goods that are refused for delivery at customs.
NAFTA Certificates: If you are a resident of Mexico interested in reducing import duties, contact Learning Without Tears Customer Service to obtain a NAFTA certificate for HWT workbooks, teacher’s guides, and paper. Contact us via the customer care form or call 888.983.8409.
International orders submitted online must include a credit card number. However, for an additional $30.00 fee, an advanced wire transfer payment may replace the credit card payment after the order is finalized by email with Learning Without Tears Customer Service.
We use a variety of methods to ship our orders. We consider delivery time and order weight in choosing the most efficient carrier.
Shipping and Handling Costs
US Shipping and Handling Rates
- Subtotal under $65: add $6.50
- Subtotal over $65: add 10% of subtotal
AK, HI, APO/FPO, and US Territories Shipping and Handling Rates
- 15% of subtotal ($7.50 minimum)
Canada Shipping and Handling Rates
- 10% of subtotal ($14 minimum; includes customs, duties, and brokerage fees)
International Shipping (excluding Canada)
Customer is responsible for customs, duties, and taxes.
- 15% of subtotal ($20.00 minimum)
You are not able to submit an online order that will ship to multiple destinations. You may either enter a separate online order for each shipping address, or you may submit a purchase order via fax at 301.263.2707 or email. You may also submit your purchase order showing the items to ship to each address.
Delivery Times
Business days do not include weekends or holidays.
- US and US Territories: 7–14 business days
- APO/FPO: Up to 15 business days
- Canada: 7–10 business days
- Other International: Approximately 15 business days

- If the signup form says, "A user with the specified ID already exists..." return to the login page, then click "Forgot your password?" instead.
Both forms send a verification code by email. If a code isn't accepted:
- Delete older verification emails.
- Click "Send Verification Code" or "Send New Code" to send a new verification email.
- Watch for the new email in your Inbox (or Junk Mail), and confirm a current time stamp.
- Promptly enter the latest code in our form, then click "Verify Code."
- Click "Continue" after seeing "E-mail address verified. You can now continue."
- Enter a password in both boxes, then complete and submit the form.
